English has many words that sound the same, but are written differently. They are called “homophones”. Possibly the most confusing same-sounding words are “there”, “their” and “they’re”. If you sometimes get them mixed up, don’t be too embarrassed – many native English speakers do it too. But this is not an excuse to continue making the mistake…

Remember:

1)      “There” is the opposite of “here”.

2)      “Their” is the possessive, the plural of “his/her”.

3)      “They’re” is just a short way of saying “they are”.
