Today’s idiom: “once in a blue moon”

8 Oct

Have you ever seen a blue moon? Me neither. But sometimes the moon can look blue – under very rare conditions in the atmosphere.

The phrase “once in a blue moon” means “very seldom”. For example:

George: “How often do you go to the theatre?”

Kate: “Oh, only once in a blue moon, it’s so expensive!”
