Today’s idiom: “sour grapes”

19 Nov

Imagine this situation: Sue really likes a dress in the shop. But when she looks at the price, she sees that it’s too expensive. She says, “My husband probably wouldn’t like it anyway”. Her friend Jane replies, “That’s just sour grapes!”

So, “sour grapes” means that you criticise something, just because you can’t have it.
