Today’s idiom: “when hell freezes over”

9 Jan

For those who believe in heaven and hell, hell is a place of eternal fire. So the expression “when hell freezes over” simply means “never”. For example:

A: “When will we get some honest politicians?”

B: “When hell freezes over.”

In America there is a small town called “Hell”, and in the current arctic weather it really has frozen over (see picture).

By the way, a few months ago we had another idiom that has the same meaning. Do you remember it? It was “not in a month of Sundays”.
