Today’s saying: “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks”

21 Jan

Remember yesterday’s idiom (banging your head against a wall)? In the example, we mentioned that “your dog is too old to be trained”. This leads us conveniently to today’s English saying: “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks”.

We all know that it’s more difficult to train an old dog. It is the same with people. So, today’s saying means that it is difficult to change someone’s behaviour, if he/she has done something the same way for a long time.

For example: “Your father is 90 years old. You want to teach him how to use a computer? Forget it! You can’t teach an old dog new tricks, you know!”
